Remarks: Found mainly in tropical waters. Spawns in midsummer and rarely exceeds 30 inches and 5 pounds in size. Feeds on small fish and marine invertebrates.
Fishing: Fishing for Yellowtail on outside reef areas is the best chance at catching the larger fish. Yellow tail can be very leader shy so light tackle is usually required. Chumming is a good way to get the fish up in the water column in the feeding mode. Small cut baits like fish, shrimp, or squid drifted in the chum slick is productive.
