I bought five of these, attracted by the nautical design. Weems and Plath is the authentic leading provider of these types of lamps and lanterns to the world's finest yachts, so what you are buying here is the real deal, not a knock-off. Other lights like this are attempting to replicate the Weems and Plath original.
So, it's great from a decorative standpoint. However, keep in mind that this is designed to be a table lamp and the maximum recommended wattage is 45 watts.
I had always planned to have these converted to work as hanging ceiling lights controlled by a dimmer, so it's not a huge problem -- I just brought my units to him and had some hanging brass chain added, swapped the plug for a hard-wire installation, and swapped out the socket to support a higher wattage. But you may not be in the same boat as me so consider the wattage carefully before you buy.
